This issue was observed in mid-2016 and may be a temporary issue related to the file properties resulting from chart updates in that time period.

Delete the file "BC-SEML.nv2" stored under ../Documents/Fugawi Marine 5/Charts/Navionics/{{your Navionics card name}}/Navionic/Charts.

When Charts | Download X-Traverse Charts is clicked, a long pause ensues; and then a connection failed / time out error is given and no list of charts eligible for activation is given.

Several things can cause this, and usually it has nothing to do directly with the Fugawi Marine 5 software. Corporate proxy server settings, or Virtual Private Network (VPN) access, or harshly restrictive security firewall settings may cause this class of problem.

The Windows Management Interface (WMI) -- a core service of Microsoft Windows -- can develop issues that create variants of "namespace" errors in various software, Fugawi Marine 5 among them. The Chart Quilter function of the software may be over-taxed, may develop a memory leak and this resuls in fatal errors mentioning the Quilter. More rarely, other error message types may be triggered by Quilter related issues. The general fix for this class of issue is to move raster chart folders and then disable automatic quilting.

The issue described in this article is discussed in terms of Fugawi Marine 5 but the exact same issue arises in Voyage Planner. Adapt these instructions to suit Voyage Planner.

The software's auto-load raster chart feature is often considered preferable when actively navigating a route through an assorted of adjacent raster charts. Quilted (seamless) charts may require some troubleshooting but work nicely if the master quilted chart is composed of a wide variety of large, medium, and small scale charts with a lot of spatial overlap. This article explains how to use both ways of viewing charts.
